Tianjin University, established in 1895 with the name of “Peiyang University”, is the first educational institution of higher learning in China. Over a hundred years, more than 150,000 students have graduated from Tianjin University and made great contributions in every walk of life. Introduction of Tianjin University school of International Education 

Tianjin University school of International Education was established in January 2000, it is one of the secondary schools of Tianjin University.

The school of International Educational takes enrollment, teaching administration, social administration and services functions of international students at Tianjin University for its main task, and also undertakes the Chinese language teaching for international students.

The school of International Educational has been carrying on the fine tradition and sprit of running school which formed in the course of development for more than 110 years of Tianjin University, by relying on the abundant actual force and advantages of running school, gave full play to the experiences of international student education for over 50 years, positively carry out the guideline of state international students education in new period, adhere to the sprit of developing, pioneering, innovation and advance with the times, has been made the scale of international student of Tianjin University to expanded unceasingly in several years.

The level and quality of teaching has remarkably enhanced and attracted more and more international students study at Tianjin University. In recent years, there have been over 1000 international students at different levels coming to this university each year and this data has placed the forward rank among the national science and engineering universities and local universities.

At present, Tianjin University has formed various types and levels in international student education including short-term and long-term Chinese language courses, undergraduate, master degree to Ph. D students. There are 42 countries students are studying at this university now, compared with that of 20 years ago, only 10 countries students studied here. Along with increases of international students and their countries, there has formed a multi-culture and internationalization atmosphere on campus.

The School of International Education of Tianjin University has its advantages and characteristics in construction of disciplines, teaching system, course offered, teaching staff, teaching equipment and teaching management which is fit for the development of international student education of the school. Especially, the administrative system and operational mode of the school is more effective which has been proved by way of practice.

The school has 3 advanced video-audio labs, more modern ?equipped classrooms and 3 international dormitories which provided a good living environment for international students, the gross floors area of different buildings of the school is near 20000 square meters.

Tianjin University currently offers 67 undergraduate programs , with a standard duration of 4 years (5 years for the Architecture program). Among these, 3 programs are taught in English , and the Pharmacy program is offered exclusively in English .

Application Process

Applicants must register and log in to the Tianjin University International Student Service Platform (website: tu.at0086.cn/student ) during the designated application period, fill in personal information, upload required documents, and complete the entire application process online.

• 📢 Admission Results Announcement: July 2025

Tianjin University will conduct a selection based on applicants’ high school academic performance , language proficiency , and interview results (interview schedule will be announced separately). Applicants are advised to regularly check their email or log in to the online application system to track the progress and status of their application.

• ✅ Admission Fee Requirements:
  Admitted students (except those receiving pre-admission for the Chinese Government Scholarship) must pay a refundable deposit of 7,000 RMB and a non-refundable application fee of 420 RMB by the deadline set by the university.
  • A screenshot of the payment confirmation must be uploaded to the Tianjin University online application system (tu.at0086.cn/student ).

After receiving the payment confirmation, Tianjin University will send the Admission Notice (electronic version) and the Foreigner’s Application for Study in China (Form JW202) via email in July .

• ⚠️ Important Note: If a student withdraws for personal reasons after being admitted, the deposit and application fee are non-refundable .

Scholarships

Tianjin University currently offers the following scholarships for outstanding new international students:

1. Chinese Government Scholarship (Type A)

(Available only for Mandarin-taught programs)

• Applicants must apply directly through the Chinese Embassy or Consulate in their home country.
• Contact information for Chinese diplomatic missions abroad can be found on the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China .
• The application period is generally from November of the current year to early February of the following year .
• When completing the Chinese Government Scholarship Application Form , applicants must list "Tianjin University" as their first-choice institution .
• It is recommended to obtain a Letter of Intent to Accept from a Tianjin University professor or secure pre-admission status before applying for this scholarship.
• Application deadlines and other details are subject to the regulations of the local embassy or consulate.

2. Qiushi Scholarship / Tianjin University Scholarship / Tianjin University Chemical Engineering Special Scholarship

• No separate application form is required.
• Applicants only need to upload supporting documents (e.g., motivation letter, CV, recommendation letters) to the "Other" section of the Tianjin University online application system: tu.at0086.cn/student .
• Selection is conducted by the university based on academic excellence and overall application quality.
• Scholarship recipients will be announced together with the admission results for new students.

Fee Structure

• Application Fee: 420 RMB
  (Not required at the time of application; waived for applicants receiving the Chinese Government Scholarship)

• Tuition Fees:

• Accident and Hospitalization Insurance: 800 RMB per academic year

• Accommodation Fees:
  Ranging from 15 to 60 RMB per person per day , depending on campus and room type. Detailed rates are available on the university’s official website.
