CQU Brief Profile

Chongqing University (CQU) is a national key university and a member of the "Excellence League," located in Chongqing, Southwest China. It is also one of the prestigious "211 Project" and "985 Project" universities, receiving strong support from both the central government and the Chongqing Municipal Government. Founded in 1929, CQU comprises six major academic divisions—Science, Social Sciences, Humanities, Engineering, Built Environment, and Information Science and Technology—along with 35 schools offering 96 undergraduate, 236 master's, 121 doctoral, and 19 professional degree programs, as well as 29 postdoctoral research stations.

The university currently has 26 colleges, a Graduate School, the City College of Science and Technology, and continuing and online education colleges, with a total enrollment of approximately 52,000 students, including 16,000 postgraduate students. It employs 5,742 faculty and staff, including 2,709 full-time teachers, 10 members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Chinese Academy of Sciences (including affiliated academicians), 277 doctoral supervisors, and over 330 experts receiving state council allowances. The campus spans 178 hectares, with modern facilities including a well-equipped library housing 3.27 million volumes, 500,000 e-books, and serving as the central node for China's Education and Research Network (CERNET).

CQU has 12 national key disciplines, 3 national teaching bases, 8 national and ministerial key laboratories, and has established collaborative labs with global companies such as Siemens, Microsoft, IBM, and Rockwell. In recent years, it has undertaken over 100 national key research projects and won numerous national and provincial scientific awards. The university actively promotes international cooperation, maintaining academic ties with over 40 institutions in 20 countries and hosting international students from more than 20 nations. As a designated institution for Chinese Government Scholarship recipients, CQU is committed to becoming a world-class comprehensive research university, aligned with its mission to serve national and regional development through science, technology, and education.
