BIPT Brief Profile
Beijing Institute of Petrochemical Technology (BIPT), established in 1978, is a higher education institution co-constructed by the central and Beijing municipal governments, with primary administration by the latter. Over the past four decades, BIPT has evolved into a comprehensive university specializing in engineering, with a strong focus on supporting China’s core industries such as petrochemicals and energy equipment, while also aligning with Beijing’s economic and social development. It emphasizes the coordinated development of science, engineering, economics, management, and liberal arts.
The university currently comprises 10 academic units: the Colleges of Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Information Engineering, Economics and Management, and Humanities and Social Sciences; the Departments of Materials Science and Engineering, Foreign Languages, and Physics and Mathematics; the Section of Physical Education; and the Engineering Education Center. It offers 23 undergraduate programs.
With consistent support from the Beijing Municipal Government and SINOPEC, BIPT has upheld a pragmatic and progressive spirit, achieving significant progress in educational reform and institutional growth. It has earned numerous honors, including recognition as an Advanced Unit in Technology, Culture, Hygiene, and Sports, a model institution for social practice and community volunteering, and a Civilized Campus in Beijing. BIPT continues to play a vital role in cultivating talent and providing intellectual support for national and regional development.
