BUCT Brief Profile

Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT) was established in 1958 . Formerly known as the Beijing Institute of Chemical Technology. BUCT is a national key state university directly affiliated with the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China.BUCT is a national first-class discipline construction university and is part of the 211 Project universities and 985 Project Innovation Platforms.With half a century of history, BUCT has become a multi-discipline university with a solid foundation in science and engineering, as well as other distinctive disciplines such as management, economics, law, literature, education, philosophy, medical sciences.

The BUCT is included by the Times Higher Education （THE） World University Rankings 2021, securing a position somewhere between 501st and 600th internationally and between 23rd and 33rd domestically.The academic strength of the university has steadily increased. Chemistry ,materials science are in the top 1‰ of THE ESI ranking, and engineering, and biology and biochemistry are in the top 1%. Chemical engineering and technology in the fourth round of discipline assessment in China ranked joint third.

After more than 60 years of construction, Beijing University of Chemical Technology has developed into a multi-discipline key university with a solid foundation in science, strong strength in engineering, and distinctive features in management, economics, law, literature, education, philosophy and medicine, it has formed a multi-level talent training pattern from undergraduate education to master's degree, doctor's degree, post-doctor's station and foreign student education. At present, the university has 14 colleges, with 15,340 full-time undergraduate students, 7,643 postgraduates (including more than 1026 doctoral students) , 3,034 correspondence students and Continuing education students, and more than 650 international students.

Tianjin University currently offers 67 undergraduate programs , with a standard duration of 4 years (5 years for the Architecture program). Among these, 3 programs are taught in English , and the Pharmacy program is offered exclusively in English .

Application Process

Applicants must register and log in to the Tianjin University International Student Service Platform (website: tu.at0086.cn/student ) during the designated application period, fill in personal information, upload required documents, and complete the entire application process online.

• 🔔 Important Note: Due to limited scholarship quotas, applicants seeking scholarships must complete their applications by April 1, 2025 . For more details, see the "Scholarships" section below.

• 📢 Admission Results Announcement: July 2025

Tianjin University will conduct a selection based on applicants’ high school academic performance , language proficiency , and interview results (interview schedule will be announced separately). Applicants are advised to regularly check their email or log in to the online application system to track the progress and status of their application.

• ✅ Admission Fee Requirements:
  Admitted students (except those receiving pre-admission for the Chinese Government Scholarship) must pay a refundable deposit of 7,000 RMB and a non-refundable application fee of 420 RMB by the deadline set by the university.
  • A screenshot of the payment confirmation must be uploaded to the Tianjin University online application system (tu.at0086.cn/student ).

After receiving the payment confirmation, Tianjin University will send the Admission Notice (electronic version) and the Foreigner’s Application for Study in China (Form JW202) via email in July .

• ⚠️ Important Note: If a student withdraws for personal reasons after being admitted, the deposit and application fee are non-refundable .

Scholarships

Tianjin University currently offers the following scholarships for outstanding new international students:

1. Chinese Government Scholarship (Type A)

(Available only for Mandarin-taught programs)

• Applicants must apply directly through the Chinese Embassy or Consulate in their home country.
• Contact information for Chinese diplomatic missions abroad can be found on the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China .
• The application period is generally from November of the current year to early February of the following year .
• When completing the Chinese Government Scholarship Application Form , applicants must list "Tianjin University" as their first-choice institution .
• It is recommended to obtain a Letter of Intent to Accept from a Tianjin University professor or secure pre-admission status before applying for this scholarship.
• Application deadlines and other details are subject to the regulations of the local embassy or consulate.

2. Qiushi Scholarship / Tianjin University Scholarship / Tianjin University Chemical Engineering Special Scholarship

• No separate application form is required.
• Applicants only need to upload supporting documents (e.g., motivation letter, CV, recommendation letters) to the "Other" section of the Tianjin University online application system: tu.at0086.cn/student .
• Selection is conducted by the university based on academic excellence and overall application quality.
• Scholarship recipients will be announced together with the admission results for new students.

Fee Structure

• Application Fee: 420 RMB
  (Not required at the time of application; waived for applicants receiving the Chinese Government Scholarship)

• Tuition Fees:

• Accident and Hospitalization Insurance: 800 RMB per academic year

• Accommodation Fees:
  Ranging from 15 to 60 RMB per person per day , depending on campus and room type. Detailed rates are available on the university’s official website.
